Monsoon Wind Power Project is Southeast Asia’s largest onshore wind farm, with an installed capacity of 600 MW. Located across approximately 68,000 hectares in the Sekong and Attapeu provinces of southern Lao PDR, the project delivers clean electricity to Vietnam via a 500 kV cross-border transmission line. Officially achieving commercial operation on 22 August 2025, Monsoon Wind marks a historic milestone as Asia’s first cross-border renewable energy project. It operates under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and is expected to avoid over 32.5 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over its lifetime. The project also brings long-term socio-economic benefits to local communities through job creation and a US$1.1 million annual Community Development Fund supporting education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.
